Prolouge

The storm growled and pelted the cats below with ice cold rain. Lightning flashed, showing the silhouettes of the cats for a brief second. The wind howled and whistled, buffeting over anything that dare stood in its way.

"Duststar! A cat hissed, struggling to keep herself up. "We can't stay out here!"

A large dusky brown tabby tom whipped around, snarling. "No! We must keep going!"

The she-cat growled but walked slowly forward. More cats followed her, all struggling to walk.

"Duststar please!" Begged the she-cat.

Duststar nodded and sprinted forward, the group of cats following him. They jumped over a fence and scrambled into a turned over dumpster.

"What's going to happen to us?" A small kit asked, curling up next to its mother, shaking.

"I.."The mother cat paused. "I don't know."

Duststar's intense amber eyes swept over the group of cats. "This is our home now."

The cats stared at their leader in silence.

"Here?" A pretty white and gold she-cat asked. "In the middle of a Twolegplace?"

Duststar nodded. "Yes, Mousewhisper. Where else is there to go?"

Mousewhisper was silent. "But all we'll be able to eat is crowfood."

The mother cat curled her tail around her sleeping kit. "I don't want my kit to get sick eating junk!"

Duststar glared at the she-cat. "Unless you want to kill yourself, you can find somewhere else to go! Your choice, Whitecloud."

Whitecloud hissed. "I'm not going anywhere."

Duststar turned around slowly and laid down, curling his tail over his nose neatly. "We'll figure out things in the morning."

Mousewhisper yawned and stretched out next to a black tom. "Good night, Blackstorm."

Duststar watched the she-cat close her eyes. The rain drummed in a calming way on the dumpster, and the rain drops outside were turned silver by the moonlight. Lightning lit the sky with an almost blinding flash of white light, and thunder rumbled after it. The brown tom yawned and sat near the enterance. He thought he saw a pair of green eyes in the shadows across the way, but when he blinked it was gone. You're just tired.. He made his way to the back of the dumpster and closed his eyes, the sound of the rain making him drift off to sleep.
